Case Study: Autonomous Diesel-Hydraulic Seawater Fi-Fi System, Jubail

Arabian Chemical Terminals Ltd., in Jubail, Saudi Arabia, needed a robust firefighting solution to protect its chemical terminal. The requirement was for a seawater fire pump system capable of lifting water directly from the quay, while safely positioning the Hydraulic Power Pack containers 35 metres onshore, on their own ACT premises.

Our solution

Fischcon provided a customised turnkey fire pump package, specifically engineered to meet the strict technical requirements and enhance overall safety by physically separating the seawater-side equipment from the power units.

Installation: Plug-and-Play Efficiency with Cost Certainty

  • Containerised Power Packs & Pumps – Hydraulic power packs and vertical pumps arrived pre-assembled in offshore-certified containers, having already passed Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT). This reduced onsite civil engineering, welding, and heavy lifting, streamlining the build schedule and securing project costs early on.
  • Vertical Pump Submerged Below Waterline – No requirement for suction pipework or priming systems, reducing fabrication time onsite and eliminating potential leakage points.
  • Power Packs Positioned 35m Away – Heavy diesel engines strategically located outside the hazardous quay-side area, decreasing structural loads and simplifying foundation requirements.
  • Factory-Applied High Quality Coatings and Dust Filters – Equipment optimally protected against intense solar radiation, high salt concentrations, and sand-laden atmospheres.
  • Dedicated Pump Mounting Frames & Pre-Assembled Discharge Piping – Installation simplified to positioning the pumps in dedicated mounting frames and connecting the discharge piping flanges—eliminating the need for divers and hazardous hot work near active waterways.

Operation: Autonomous and Flexible Performance

  • Fully Autonomous Control – System automatically operated via a single push-button or remote signal, providing immediate fire-water response without permanent personnel attendance.
  • Hydraulic Drive with Variable Pressure / Flow Control – Adjusts water flow from 800 m³/h at 113 m wc (100%) to 1,200 m³/h at 74 m wc (150%) to minimise fuel consumption and pressure variations.
  • Permanently Submerged Pumps – Ensures instant water availability, prevents cavitation, and guarantees operational readiness even after extended standby periods.
  • Separated Power Pack and Pump Locations – Daily maintenance activities on the engine container without requiring access to the quay.
  • Lightweight Pump Units in Open Water – Eliminates the need for dedicated pump cellars or heavy-duty jetty structures.
  • Modular Container Construction – Complete pre-assembly in the factory, eliminating the need for any on-site assembly.
