Bespoke fire water solution for one of the world’s most advanced offshore projects

When Shell launched the FLNG Prelude, it marked a breakthrough in offshore engineering. At nearly half a kilometre long, it was the largest floating facility ever constructed. For fire safety on such a critical asset, Shell needed more than just firewater pumps—they needed a fully engineered, stand-alone fire protection system with guaranteed performance. Fischcon delivered exactly that.

Firewater pumping under extreme offshore conditions

For this milestone project, Fischcon supplied two diesel-hydraulic fire water pump packages, each delivering 1,600 m³/h at 12 bar. Fully skid-mounted and factory-tested, these systems were engineered for black-out-proof reliability, autonomous operation, and compliance with the highest marine safety standards.

Each system consists of:

  • A hydraulic-driven lift pump, installed below the waterline for immediate water access—no priming needed, no suction height to overcome.
  • A diesel-driven booster pump, positioned topside and fully independent of shipboard power.
  • A control system built for fully autonomous operation, ensuring instant response without manual intervention.
